Allen Iverson’s sometime glittering career in the NBA could just be over after he left the Memphis Grizzlies early into his tenure with the franchise.

Although Iverson was given permission ‘to leave to attend to personal business’ late last week, his time in Memphis had already started to become a sideshow with more talk about him being asked to come off the bench than anything else.

So, things aren't looking good for the NBA right now.  There are a lot of reasons, the economy, it struggles compared to the other sports anyway, superstar bailout calls, the "thug" image, and mainly the fact the refs don't really know how to call the game.  I have a hard time watching somebody get 4 steps through the lane and a 4 second later continuation call; sorry, but that's not basketball.  Toss in the fact that these refs that don't apparently enforce the rules are going to go on strike and they also gamble on basketball.. things aren't looking good.  Teams are desperate to pack the stands.

Vince Carter and Ryan Anderson are sent to the Magic for Rafer Alston, Courtney Lee, and Tony Battie.  In what looks like another attempt by Jay-Z and the Nets to get good buddy LeBron James to New Jersey has been made.  Moving Carter's big salary does that.  What was confusing was shipping youngster Anderson and acquiring poing guard Alston.  PG Devin Harris had a tremendous break out year.  Does this mean that he will move to SG or will Lee start there and Alston be a bench player.

THAT WAS A GREAT GAME. THE NETS KILLED THE PISTONS FROM THE START. MOST PEOPLE THINK THAT THE NETS SUCK BUT THEY PROVED EVERYONE WRONG. THEY KILLED ONE OF THE BEST TEAMS ON THE LEAGUE. I MEAN ITS SO SURPRISING AND IM HAPPY FOR THE NETS. BUT THE PISTONS NEED SOME REAL PRACTICE. IF THEY CAN LOSE TO ONE OF THE MOST UNKNOWN TEAMS. THEN THEY REALLY NEED A NEW COACH OR BETTER DEFENSE PLAYERS. AND I THINK MOST PEOPLE WILL AGREE WITH ME WHEN I SAY THAT THE NETS DID A GREAT JOB AND I HOPE THEY CONTINUE TO HAVE THE BEST OF LUCK.

As quick as the Oklahoma City Thunder accepted the trade for big man Tyson Chandler, the sent it right back.  Late Wednesday night, Tyson Chandler of the New Orleans Hornets was shipped back to Louisiana due to a failed physical. One of the Thunder doctors gave him a physical and examined his big left toe.  He decided that the risk of injuring it again was to great to give him a clean bill of health.  Tyson Chandler has turned into one of the solid big men in the league but has really never lived up to his potential after being drafted second overall in the 2001 NBA draft by the Clippers and then traded to the Bulls for former rookie of the year, Elton Brand.  Chandler has averaged 8.2 points per game and 9 rebounds per game since he went pro in 2001.  This trade not going through may have helped the hornets more then people think though.  When Chandler gets healthy they'll be one of the top teams in the Western Conference again and maybe make a title run.  Then again if this trade would have gone through the Hornets would have had a potentially a deep, playoff experienced, team.  They could send more guys off the bench if the trade would have gone through and that could give them more fire power against Western Conference powerhouses like the Lakers.  The big question here is, will it be awkward to come back to a team who would just ship you off with no second thought?  It would feel to me like I was not appreciated there and why should I stay there when they do not want me around.  I would feel betrayed.  Then again I am typing on here and he is in the NBA, it is his choice.

OK, so we've all seen the streetball incident across the pond, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TECwwpY4JAU&feature=related Let's put this all in perspective though. Streetball is unquestionably defenseless, which make for great highlights like the one I just posted, and lets not forget the Nets won both mathups against the Heat, clearly more important. But back the video. Should we worry about Harris' defense?? because a British teen streetballer owned him... no, no we shouldn't. There's a couple of reasons Harris made Hollinger's Rising Stars list on epsn.com .. yea yea yea i know Hollinger's analysis can be suspect, especially with all that PER crap he tries to ram down everyone's throat but one of his most relevant points dealt with Harris' STELLAR defense. Harris is quick, in fact he's got Tony Parker and Monte Ellis quickness, I'd honestly rank him among the top 5 quickets players in the league. He's also decievingly strong, I say decievingly because he's built longer and "lankier" than thicker.  On-ball defensive skils work primarily off quickness, agility and strength. Look at Iverson for a perfect example, at age 33 he's still one of the top 5 quickest players but he gets pushed around, hammered on screens and isolated by offenses, why? because hes not strong, hence his on ball defense is awful. On the other hand off the ball defense, one of the reasons Iverson is not a complete defensive liability, is vision and quickness. When you add up all these attributes Harris has the makings for defensive stardom. It's really ashame he couldn't have studied behind Kidd during his early years on the Nets, even if Harris had only aquired Kidd's defenisve mind, his body could have filled in any gaps.

Hollywood has turned to comic book heroes and old television shows to help satisfy the audiences’ demands for entertainment. Movies like Spiderman and Transformers are now some of the biggest moneymaking movies of all time because these movies provide heroes and stories that a majority of adults grew up with. These paying adults collected comic books and ran home after school to watch cartoons about robots from a planet called Cybertron and are more than giddy to revisit their childhood. Thanks to Hollywood, new generations have been introduced to old favorites and Peter Parker and Optimus Prime are as fascinating now as they were back then. In following this trend, it shouldn’t be a surprise to anybody that the Lakers and Celtics rivalry has returned and piqued the interest of many sports fans world wide.

It's little wonder why the San Antonio Spurs are the defending NBA champions and have won four titles in nine seasons in building their own dynasty over that same period. No, I’m not talking about CP3, but rather the significant influence that third-quarter play has had on the series between the Hornets and Spurs, now tied at two games apiece. After starting the second halves of the first two games with unparalleled intensity, last night New Orleans seemed, to take a word from Stephen A. Smith, anemic. The Spurs outscored them 30-19 in their 100-80 win last night. Byron Scott, clearly upset with his squad’s performance, cleared his bench to start the fourth. His attempt to regain the vehemence the Hornets had previously played with was in futility. The Spurs simply out-hustled their visitors last night. Hopefully, the Hornets can return the favor when the series comes back to the Big Easy tomorrow night.

to Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili. They knew that last night’s game was a must-win and stepped up to the challenge. The backcourt duo combined for 62 points and 17 assists in the series’ third. At the other end, San Antonio quieted Stojakovic; after putting up 47 between the first and second games, Peja only scored 8. Paul and Parker answered each other off the bounce on numerous back-to-back possessions, finishing with 35 and 9, 31 and 11, respectively. After their 110-99 loss, the Hornets will regroup and win a close one Sunday, as the series continues.

After a decisive victory Saturday night, the Hornets will meet with a Spurs team playing with a vengeance. Here’s what to look out for tonight.

·        Tim Duncan hustling more than Rick Ross. After a pathetic 5 points and 3 boards compiled in the first game, the forward will be playing focused, tough basketball. Tyson Chandler did a great job of shutting him down, but if he gets into foul trouble (which San Antonio will be gunning for), watch for Hilton Armstrong to come in and do his best.

The big day is finally here! So far this morning the internets have been a flurry of activity. We'll be checking in throughout the day. But as I said yesterday there will be alcohol involved so no promises as to how much posting will be done or how many typos there will be. Pat Kirwan, someone I trust more than anyone else when it comes to NFl info, has the Pats trading up to #5 to get Vernon Gholston is his last mock draft. Gholston has been slipping down a lot of boards and some are now labelling him a "workout warrior" so we'll see if the Pats like him that much that they want to move up to get him. Personally I don't think they will. There's too many good players to be had in the middle of round one thru the end of round two. That's where the Pats want to be. OAKLAND –

Coming off a loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves the Golden State Warriors continued to play their best against the sinking New Jersey nets.   Despite an injured Vince Carter, the Nets did explode in the second quarter slowing the tempo of the Warriors who lead in the first quarter. Vince Carter scored 29 points and Richard Jefferson scored 34 points for the Nets, who are on their worst longest losing streak in three years. Josh Boone also had 21 points and 17 rebounds.  Not much could stop Monta Ellis who scored his career-high 39 points. Golden State scored 22 consecutive points and blew a 13-point lead in the fourth quarter of their 121-119 victory over the New Jersey Nets.
